Ebonyi State Commissioner of Information, Senator Samuel Onwe, has said it is ridiculous for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to say that the five southeast governors did not do anything to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) from detention or for them to think that the governors of the region do not feel the needs and aspirations of their people.
Speaking in an interview on behalf of the 5 southeast governors, Senator Onwe restated the position of the southeast governors on Kanu's detention and release and also restated the governors' position whenever the pro-Biafra groups clash with Nigeria's security agents who unfortunately open fire on the agitators.
He said to think the governors have been silent or simply compromised is ridiculous because the Governors of Ebonyi State and his four brother governors played both discreet and open roles not only to secure Kanu's release but have also been against the handling of the situation by Nigeria's security agents who he described as 'overzealous federal operatives deranged by anti-Igbo impulses''
According to him, ''I can speak for Ebonyi State to the extent that it is my official duty to do so. If such an accusation exists, it is not only ridiculous but idle-minded, and can only be peddled by those who are perhaps ignorant of the facts in play and the varied nature of the solutions that were and are being evolved and pursued.
Continuing, he said ''the Governor of Ebonyi State is the Chairman of the South East Governors Forum and I am a direct witness to some of the open and discreet efforts he and his brother governors in the region have made and continue to make in respect of the IPOB/MASSOB agitations and the intense pressure to secure the release of Mr Nnamdi Kanu. Does anyone with even a single brain cell think for one moment that the streets of Anambra would flow with the blood of innocent young men and women, mowed down by the bullets of overzealous federal operatives deranged by anti-Igbo impulses and the Governor of the state would simply turn and walk away as if nothing had happened? ''

There are many shades of opinions and in the political field there are various and varying tactical styles to the game. The debate over the restructuring of the republic or devolution of powers or outright disintegration, so that each component part would fold inwards and project distinct identities as little republics is undoubtedly intensive and emotive. And once political and tribal emotions run riot, wild statements, accusations and vituperations gain ascendency. I can assure you that the governors of the South East of Nigeria are alert to the demands and aspirations of their people.''
