Reports reaching our Paris news desk say that the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and other Civil Society Organizations (CLOs) are daggers drawn over the sum of money released by Amnesty International to sponsor protests and influence public opinion.
The amount of money in question which was released last week is a whooping N200 million Naira allegedly released by the International human rights group in their favour in the wake of protests and condemnations of their recent infamous roles in the fight against terror in Nigeria.
Sources disclosed that the money was released to a faction of the Nigerian Labour Congress by Amnesty International’s Country Director, to coordinate other civil society groups who are supposed to organise rallies and also press events in Abuja in its favour.
This money, our source, further reveal is yet to ground round the appropriate quarters although the CSOs have already go into action to the do the global human rights bidding.
One of the groups leaders who spoke to newsmen on condition of anonymity said before today's rallies they had requested the leadership of the NLC to make money available to enable them handle logistic issues and meet other exigencies.
According to him, “it is rather unfortunate that the NLC is acting this way. This funds were made available since last week but they have refused to distribute to the stakeholders involved, neither have they availed themselves for any consultations. We are already in motion and are ready with our people waiting for logistics to take action but these guys are holding us back.”
