President Muhammadu Buhari, was absent at the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, holding at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, which was presided by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.
No official reason was given for the President’s absence.
However, a Presidential source revealed that Buhari has been battling with health challenges, and therefore needed more rest.
“The President could not make the FEC meeting today, due to health challenges. That is why he delegated his VP, Osinbajo, to hold brief for him,’’ a top source said.
This is the first time Osinbajo had presided over the meeting, since Buhari returned from his 50-days medical vacation, on March 10.
Buhari’s absence caught the Ministers who had expected him to preside the meeting, by surprise.
Nevertheless, by 11:00 a.m when the FEC meeting was scheduled to commence, Osinbajo’s voice resonated from the background, as he called for the National Anthem.
Ministers who were hitherto exchanging pleasantries with each another, quickly settled down for the day’s business.
Recall, that Buhari had attended last week’s FEC meeting, where he launched the Economic and Recovery Growth Plan.
