A certain Church pastor held for an alleged attempt to bomb a Church in Benin City, Edo State has revealed the reasons for his action, New Telegraph reports.
The pastor, Abel Anthony, has told the police on interrogation that he planted the bomb inside the premises of Christ Chosen Church of God to avenge his sack by the church management for not giving him the chance to defend an allegation of infidelity leveled against him by his wife. He said his wife had complained she saw another woman’s bra and a pack of condoms in his bag.
According to the Church pastor, he got angry because instead of investigating the issue, the church dismissed him even when he explained that the bra was left in his house by one of his pastors’ wife who lodged in his apartment for the burial ceremony of one of their deacons.
Anthony added that all attempts to explain to his wife that the condoms were given to him at an HIV/AIDs seminar at Urhokpota Hall in Benin fell on deaf ears as she immediately reported the issue to the church which dismissed him without investigation. He said he made the bomb himself and planted it in the church not to destroy the building but to scare the members.
The suspect also agreed that the bomb would have exploded if fire had touched it. He added: “It was because I was dismissed from the church because I had a problem with my wife.
“My wife found a woman’s bra and condoms in my bag and went to the headquarters to report. I told her that I went for a seminar that the condoms were given to us for HIV/AIDs campaign but she didn’t believe. I also explained to her that the bra in my bag belongs to one of my pastors’ wife who had stayed in my house during a burial ceremony of a deacon in our church but she did not believe me. I told her to call the pastor but she said we might have arranged everything.
“Even when I was summoned by the Disciplinary Committee, they failed to call all the parties together to really ask them if it was true or not. My intention was not to blow up the church but to scare them.”
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Haliru Gwandu, who paraded the suspect, however, assured the people of the state that the command “is doing everything humanly possible to ensure crime and criminality is reduced to its barest in the state”.
