THOUSANDS of women, youths, and men from the five states of South East, drawn mainly from rural communities, recently converged in Umuahia, the Abia State capital for a rally to demand good governance at all levels of government.
Held at the popular Ojukwu Bunker, it was organized by a group known as Great Leadership Advocacy Organization which has as its motto “The People’s Voice, Making Nigeria Great Again”, the rally was to sensitize the people on the need for the people to always demand good governance and accountability from their leaders.
According to the organization, its objective was to form a “mass movement that will engender public consciousness towards realizing good governance”.
The group which used the rally to inaugurate the South East chapter of the organization, also explained that its objective also includes “to mobilize support for funds and aids for indigents as well as victims of natural disasters and refugees”.
Addressing the rally which featured delegates from Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States, the national leader of the organization, Hon. Martins Ikechukwu Apugo said the group was apolitical and aims to advocate for accountability and good governance.
Apugo also said that the group would “engage and educate the Nigerian citizens towards participating in their civic and social responsibilities” as well as “establish an effective platform for achieving greater leadership advocacy”.
He said that the group was born to sensitize the people on the very essence of making them to be aware of the need for leaders to change the life of the people, particularly the rural masses so that they’ll feel the impact of governance.
Apugo further explained that the organization is also out to advocate one united country as it “promotes and supports understanding of the culture and diversity of our members and respect their beliefs”.
The leader announced plan to launch the organization in all the six geo-political zones of the country to educate the people, especially the rural people of the need to demand for good governance from their leaders.
