On my mind today is the interpretation given to the remark President Buhari made to Gov Ortom when the Governors met him in the villa. Those interpreting it happily as if Ortom as a person is the issue miss the point and don’t understand what Buhari’s remark mean to the State.
Buhari has been reported severally by the Media before he became president of going to every state where Fulani Herdsmen massacred farmers to complain about “killing my people”-that is when farmers rise up to protect thier farms. That is before Buhari became president. He has not condemned the Fulani juhadist invasions in all the state’s of the federation except Katsina State
Jihadists have invaded and occupied the entire Benue since 2012. Their aim is to take over the rich agricultural land of the Benue valley by force and settle to spread Islam killing all the inhabitants. This is an existential National Security issue. Take note that The Fulani Herdsmen have been placed as the 4th most dangerous Terrorist Organisation in the world. Buhari does not think so hence he has done nothing about this.
This is the backdrop of Gov Ortom being addressed by a Fulani man who sees noting wrong with what his people have done to Benue as “trouble”. For those who don’t know that is the stero-typical European view of The Tiv before Independence,which the ruling class in Nigeria have accepted about us. Kill us,dislocate us,destroy our food barns,rape our daughters and mothers ,occupy our land, but when we complain to the person in authority,when all these are going on,the person whose people are doing these things says “you are trouble,every time I see you,its trouble–“. And a Tiv person does not feel vehemently offended by this careless remark,but turns round to celebrate it?
Am not wasting my time to refer Tiv people who hold Same views with the Fulani, after all,it has been confirmed that it is some Tiv people because,of Political differences and financial considerations that give intelligence reports to the Jihadists to attack thier own people. It is now clear where and who these traitors are coming from.
My position as has been before is that,Even though we were in the forefront for the Buhari change having been warned severally that what we are witnessing today will happen when Buhari takes power,we must begin now to realign ourselves with forces that will respect and protect our interest. The Tiv have no future in a Buhari government. We have no minister,no advisor, no Chief Executive of any Fed Parastatal. We are only been killed,maimed,raped and destroyed. And when we complain,we are taged as ” trouble makers” . We must chart a course of protecting ourselves and our interests. The Federal gov’t under Buhari as it stands now can’t protect us,since we are “trouble makers”.
Gov. Ortom must henceforth retreat to Benue and stop looking for ” trouble” in Abuja,and begin to Mobilize the Benue people to take steps to defend what our ancestors bequeathed to us. Gov Ortom should not take ” trouble” to the same person,whose people have turned our land desolate. He was elected by the people to defend them not to report to the same people who see him only as “trouble”. He must immediately summon a stakeholders conference in Govt House and ask the Benue people to find a final and lasting solution to the Jihadists onslaught. And we will proffer those solutions.
