President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday installed Emir of Zamfara, HRH Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed, as the new Chancellor of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, in Delta state with a charge on the monarch to use his position to reposition education at the institution. Buhari said his administration placed high premium on education blaming the underdevelopment in the sector on corruption which he said were traceable to negligence and personal aggrandizement on the part of administrators.
Buhari, represented by the Deputy Executive Secretary, National University Commission (NUC), Prof. Chiedu Mafiana, stated this while administering oath of office on the monarch at the first convocation of FUPRE, Africa’s first specialized petroleum varsity. He warned that his administration would not condone further acts of corruption in the nation’s educational institution, adding that any fund allocated to schools should be judiciously used for the advancement of the standard of education.
