THE Oni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has stepped into the crisis between the Hausa settlers and their Yoruba hosts that claimed many lives in Ile Ife, Osun State.
He spoke yesterday while receiving the Judicial Commission of Enquiry headed by Justice Moshood Adekunle-Adeigbe in his palace in Ile Ife.
Speaking, the monarch call for calm saying he has had a meeting with the Chairman of the National Council for Traditional Rulers, Sa’ad Abubakar and Emir of Kano Lamido Sanusi where an extensive discussion was held on the crisis.
However, he pleaded for neutrality with the commission saying that “My recent trip abroad afforded me the opportunity to meet with the two prominent Northern monarchs to discuss the way forward.”
Reacting, Justice Adekunle-Adeigbe assured that the panel would do justice to their findings and recommend appropriately.
He said: “We are here to inform you of our mission. We are men of integrity and assure you that we will be totally neutral in our duty. We will do our job without fear or favour to anyone or group in the matter. We hope to have your support.”
