Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has threatened to banish the traditional ruler of Obinugwu Autonomous Community, Eze Cletus Ilomuanya if he continued to parade himself as the monarch of the town.
Okorocha, who issued the threat on Tuesday at a media interaction with journalists, accused security agents of aiding the embattled monarch.
He said: “I have warned security agencies to stop going about with him and he should stop parading himself as the traditional ruler of Obinugwu or he would be banished; I have told security agencies to arrest him when they see him going about with coat of arms; Ilomuanya is no longer an Eze and will no longer be, he is now Mr. Ilomuanya.”
Reiterating on why he dethroned the monarch, Governor Okorocha said that he was sacked from office for deliberately absenting himself from meetings of the state traditional rulers and his deep involvement in politics.
This, he noted, prompted Ilomuanya to head to court.
Okorocha, interpreting the court verdict explained that “Ilomuanya was stopped from parading himself as the state chairman of Traditional Rulers Council”.
Last week, the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, wrote a letter to the governor to respect the court order and reinstate Ilomuanya as the traditional ruler of his community.
Meanwhile, Okorocha has said it pointblank that he will not contest the Presidency if the incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari goes for a second term, adding that he may also not contest the Orlu senatorial seat.
The governor further said that recently his administration doled-out N450 million to churches for the rehabilitation of missionary schools under their jurisdiction but regretted that the leaders of the churches never made the gesture known to the public.
Okorocha, also spoke on the commitment of his administration to making over 1,000 youths of the state millionaires, noting that in the next few days he would dole out N305 million to 305 youths from the state’s 305 political wards.
