President Muhamamdu Buhari, is officially getting back to work after nearly two months in London, on a medical leave, as he held a meeting with Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, stripping him off his acting capacity as Acting President.
In a two-paragraph statement issued on Monday, by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, he said the President has notified the National Assembly of his return to the country, and complied with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution.
The statement reads: “In compliance with Section 145 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the President has formally transmitted letters to the Senate and the House of Representatives, intimating the National Assembly ‘that I have resumed’ my functions as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, with effect from Monday, March 13, 2017, after my vacation.”
The statement was issued after the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Ita Enang, went into the President’s office and left the place a few minutes later.
Recall, that the President returned to Nigeria on Friday, but left Osinbajo in charge of Africa’s most populous nation over the weekend, as he rested.
Also, the Federal Government has still not explained what is ailing the 74-year-old President, who has made reference to blood transfusions, and said he had not been so sick in decades.
Recall also, that Buhari on Friday, said further medical checkups will be needed in the coming weeks in London, United Kingdom.
Concerns have however grown nationwide by well-meaning Nigerians, that he is not fit to resume power as President.
