An inside source within the Nigerian Army, has on Sunday, revealed that contrary to the “photo-op” by top officials of the Nigerian Army, the foot soldiers fighting Boko Haram, are barely fed their daily meals.
This revelation was made following the death of a high ranking official of the Nigerian Army last year, while fighting the insurgents.
According to the source, most of the foot soldiers who were part of the unit commanded by the officer, felt really saddened by his death, because of how he stood by them, especially in the matter of their feeding.
“His death was a huge blow to the rank and file, because he really fought for them.”
“For instance, when he was first sent to Maiduguri, he was shocked to see that the soldiers were barely fed, and even when they were served food, there was never any piece of meat in the food. This angered him greatly, and he protested. He even began to buy foodstuff with his own money.”
The source further explained, that Nigerians are never told the truth about the Boko Haram war, as the government and the Army leadership, project something different from the reality in the media.
“What they say in the media is different from what is happening out there. But what can we do about it?”
