Paris Saint-Germain PSG tried to offload Angel Di Maria to the Chinese Super League before his Champions League masterclass against Barcelona. Reports claim the Argentine was offered around to numerous clubs in the Far East after his agent Jorge Mendes was told to do so by the PSG board.
The Portuguese negotiator was pictured doing the rounds in China as he also looked to seal deals for Chelsea striker Diego Costa and Real Madrid playmaker James Rodriguez.
But Mendes’ efforts went unrewarded, with all three remaining at their respective clubs.
However, L’Equipe via GFFN claims Di Maria was not pleased with have his services touted without his permission.
A source close to the player said: “Angel did not really appreciate it. He found it disrespectful and out of place.”
Prior to the last-16 first-leg 4-0 win over Barcelona on Valentine’s Day, Di Maria had been enduring one of his worst-ever seasons as a player.
The Manchester United flop struggled for starts at one point and the arrival of Julian Draxler cast further doubt over his long-term future in the French capital.
But Unai Emery must be pleased that Di Maria ended up staying after his brace put PSG in pole position to reach the Champions League quarter-finals at the expense of Lionel Messi and Co.
