Nigeria's Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, has dismissed news making the rounds that he is under pressure to resign from office and cautioned Nigerians against reading and believing stories from rumour mills.
He said this in reaction to the rumoured meeting with two former heads of state by northerner governors to force him to resign as a possible re-enactment of the Yar'Adua-Jonathan situation that sparked off a constitutional crisis in the not too distant past when late President Yar'Adua died with his boots on which made the north then to lose their slot and had power returned to the south.
Sources disclosed that this, above all, fuelled the rumours of the pressure on the Acting President to resign and allow Senate President Bukola Saraki – from the north-central zone – to take over in the case of a repeat of the Yar’Adua scenario.
An obviously embarrassed Osinbajo was quoted as saying “I am not under any pressure to resign”
“I was voted for by the people of this nation, myself and Mr. President, and so the people of this nation have not asked us to resign.''
“I am absolutely not under any pressure whatsoever. The truth is that there has been no pressure from any source asking me to resign.”, he added.
