The Upper Legislative Chamber, barely 24 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari, presented the 2017 budget, has decided to proceed on a one month recess.
Post-Nigeria’s correspondent, gathered that the Senate, after rejecting the confirmation of the Acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, however, went further to administer the oath of office on Magnus Abe, George Sekibo, and Osinakachukwu Ideozu, all newly elected Senators from Rivers State.
Recall, that the 3 Lawmakers were elected in the Rivers Legislative rerun elections that held on Saturday, December 10.
Although, the exercise is still ongoing, as results are yet to be known for nine constituencies, which was characterized by widespread violence, and irregularities.
Senator Abe, was elected to represent Rivers South; Senator Sekibo, for Rivers East; and Senator Ideozu, for Rivers West.
The seats for the three Senatorial Districts from Rivers State, had been vacant since December, 2015, when the Court of Appeal, invalidated the Legislative elections held during the 2015 general elections, in the oil rich State.
“They just came from a tough election,” Mr. Saraki said, after congratulating the newly sworn-in Senators.
Senator Sekibo from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is in the Senate for the third time, Senator Abe from the All Progressive Congress, APC, is a second time Senator, while Senator Ideozu from the PDP, is a first time Senator.
The Senate has adjourned sitting till January 10.
