Mixed reactions have trailed media reports that President Muhammadu Buhari is keen on replacing Yemi Osinbajo with another candidate as his running mate for the 2019 presidential election. The Daily Independent citing a close source in the All Progressives Congress (APC) reported that the possibility of Osinbajo running on a joint ticket with Buhari in 2019 is very remote because of the close ties the vice-president has with Bola Tinubu.
The source said the president from his body language is already looking beyond Osinbajo because he knows Osinbajo’s loyalty lies with Tinubu. He named the minister of solid minerals Kayode Fayemi and a former governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor Kalu as likely replacements for Osinbajo. However, Nigerians have begun faulting Buhari’s alleged plan to swap Osinbajo for another candidate. Some have also faulted the choice Orji Uzor Kalu as vice-president of the country, citing his corruption as a hindrance.
