The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has on Tuesday, December 6, threatened to take the laws into their hands, if the Security details of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, are not restored with immediate effect.
The party, maintained that the deliberate withdrawal of the Chief Security Officer, CSO, to the Governor Wike, is an invitation to anarchy.
Recall, that the Police allegedly under acting on the instruction of the Presidency, had withdrawn Wike’s CSO, alongside about 70 percent of security personnel attached to Rivers State Government House, Port Harcourt.
The development is coming at a time, when Wike had few days ago, alleged that there was an assassination plot orchestrated by the Police Command, against his life.
PDP in its statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said failure to restore the Governor’s security details before the December 10 re-run elections in the State, is indirectly calling on Rivers people, to resort to self-help.
“Our Democracy is in serious danger, and if proper care is not taken, we might be heading to anarchy. A stitch in time saves nine!” the party warned.
The party however, described the withdrawal of the Governor’s security, as a slap on the nation’s constitution, noting that, “the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is very clear on the grounds by which the security of a sitting Governor, can be withdrawn.
“We therefore call on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Ibrahim Idris, and the Director General of State Security Services (SSS), Lawal Daura, to as a matter of urgency, restore all the security details of Governor Nyesom Wike, and to secure the Government House, Port Harcourt, Rivers State,” the PDP said.
Concluding, the party said the former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, should be held responsible, if anything happens to Governor Wike.
