PARIS, NOVEMBER 11, 2016: (DGW) Nigeria has grown enough rice both for domestic consumption and export which will take off next year, the Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh has assured Nigerians.
He said this on Friday while in Hadejia and Auyo local government areas of Jigawa State while on a working visit to find out the level of rice production in Jigawa state.
On return, Chief Audu Ogbe assured Nigerians that there is no cause for concern as part of the Federal Government plans was not just to grow enough for domestic consumption but also for export which , other things being equal, would commence next year without fail.
Federal Government goal is to discourage the importation of rice and the hope is now in sight in a few months because of the high yield recorded in Jigawa State which runs into about 1.2 million metric tons of the product.
In the Minister's entourage during the tour of the massive rice farm in the state was the Central bank of Nigeria Governor Mr. Godwin Emefiele and the chairman of the Presidential Taskforce on Rice and Wheat Production who is also the Kebbi State Governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu and Governor , Mohammed Badaru Abubakar who played host to them.
