PARIS, NOVEMBER 26, 2016: (DGW) President Muhammadu Buhari and Ondo State Governor , Olusegun Mimiko on Thursday disagreed over alleged plans to rig today's governorship poll in Ondo State.
While Buhari said the conduct of the polls would be better than what was recently witnessed in Edo State, Mimiko alleged that there were plans to use the ‘Edo method’ to rig the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) out of power.
Buhari, who vowed to conduct a free and peaceful election in the state and elsewhere in Nigeria, spoke in Aso Rock during a courtesy call by the Governance Support Group (GSG). He said he had no business in government if he could not guarantee a decent election.
“If we can’t guarantee decent elections, then we have no business being around. Edo State election was good, and I expect Ondo State election to be better,” he said in a statement issued by his spokesman, Femi Adesina.
This is coming as Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State and his Ekiti State counterpart, Ayodele Fasoye, yesterday raised the alarm over an alleged plan by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to compromise today’s governorship election in the ‘Sunshine State’ in favour of the of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN.
