U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry The United States of America’s secretary of state John Kerry on Friday, September 30, congratulated Nigerians on its Independence day celebration. Kerry in a statement through the US embassy in Abuja, congratulated Nigerians on behalf of US President Barack Obama and the American people on October 1, celebration.
The US secretary of state said his recent trip to Nigeria has given him a sense into the resolve by the Nigerian populace to build a better future. He said: “During my trip, I was reminded that many Nigerians are engaged in bringing people together across the divides of culture, religious practices, and ethnicity.”
Kerry however said there is still much work needed to be done to provide economic opportunities for all, end corruption, win the fight against Boko Haram, ensure broad respect for human rights and provide humanitarian relief for millions of displaced people.
“But we know that Nigerians are hard at work to address these challenges,” Kerry said. He further added that the US look forward to deepening its partnership with Nigerians from all works of life.
He said this partnership will sustain good development in Nigeria and Africa as a whole. “Best wishes to all of you on this the 56th anniversary of your independence,” he said. Saturday, October 1, will be 56 years Nigeria gained its independence from the British colonial masters.
