PARIS, OCTOBER 25, 2016: (DGW) Federal Capital Territory Minister, Mallam Mammud Musa Bello, may have parted ways with those calling for grazing reserves throughout the country by calling on herdsmen to stay away from Nigeria's capital city of Abuja.
The Minister sound the note of finality to herdsmen who appear recalcitrant in spite of the repeated orders to move their cattle out of Abuja adding that cattle could never co-habit with the city's residents.
This final warning is again coming in a series of warnings that have been handed out to Fulani herdsmen to stop cattle grazing in and around Abuja.
He renewed this warning at a meeting with the members of the Miyatti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, FCT chapter in his office.
Citing safety concerns for his decision, he frowned upon cattle roaming the streets and highways of the city.
His words:
''This should not be interpreted to mean the government wants to prevent cattle breeders from rearing cattle in the territory.
“You have to understand that when Abuja Environmental Protection Board says cattle should not roam the city, it is not because they want to prevent cattle breeders from rearing cattle in the FCT. ''
Basically, it is just for safety. It is for safety of your cattle and above all, safety of the citizens.”
