As shocking as it sounds, a former governor of Adamawa state, Murtala Nyako, and his son, Abdul’Aziz, have been stripped of their traditional titles of Sarkin Yamma, and Sarkin Matasa respectively. The paramount traditional ruler of the state, Muhammad Mustafa, who stripped both men off their titles said said the decision was necessary because the two title holders have been indicted by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, E.F.C.C and arraigned before a court of law for alleged corruption.
The Adamawa Emirate council also dismissed the senior Nyako from the membership of the council. Recall that Mr Nyako was impeached by the state House of Assembly in 2014, but the impeachment was declared illegal by the Court of Appeal but the Court did not order his reinstatement. Mr. Nyako is presently in the Supreme Court asking it to return him to office based on the ruling of the Appeal Court, an action that has pitched him against Governor Muhammad Jibrilla.
