Following the Super Eagles 2-1 victory over the Chipolopolo of Zambia, at the weekend, to lead Group B of the African qualifying series, Nigeria has been warned ahead of its next game against Algeria.
Former Eagles Coach, Christian Chukwu, who sounded the warning, said Gernot Rohr, must be wary of dreaded Algerian, in the coming encounter next month.
“Firstly, I am very happy that the Eagles won a precious three points away in Ndola, against highly rated Zambia. It is not an easy place to go and win such points. More grease to their elbows.
“I want to warn that we don’t have a team yet, but we have crop of talented young players, who are desperate to impress and make name for themselves, and also enhance their positions in their various clubs abroad, as National Team Players.
“The present Eagles is comprised of talented young players, that can play for this country for the next 10 years. That is the beauty and joy of having this new team, led by Mikel Obi.
“So, winning the three points away to Zambia, is a big morale. But let me warn seriously, that playing the Algerian team, will be another scenario.
“Algeria is the most ranked team in Africa, and playing against them, even at home here in Nigeria, will be very tough. It will be tougher than playing against Zambia, but I am very confident the boys won’t disappoint. I expect the Eagles to leave up to expectation”, Chukwu told SportingLife.
Meanwhile, former International, Joseph Dosu, has urged the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, to pay close attention to Super Eagles stars’ activities and form, before the team’s next game.
Dosu, said the Coaches should concentrate on correcting the lapses they saw during the game in Ndola, adding:
“This is the time for the players called to duty, to prove that they are capable of making us proud. And if such a player does well, he keeps his place in the team, and if not, we have talented players in abundance, spread around the whole of Europe, who are ready for whatever position they are given.
“Our Technical Adviser, should also look out for players that he thinks might be useful during the qualifiers. He should know what position he needs players to come into the team, and take over, from those that are not doing well.
“We have just a few weeks before the list will be released, as we know, these players who won the match against Zambia, just went back. He needs to monitor players subsequently, before extending invitation to them,” he said.
