- I don't get it. So Turai Yar'adua, who's First Lady for just few years is worth this much in just properties contained in boxes, but some people feel that Mrs. Patience Jonathan, who's been in top government positions with her husband, where she received gifts of different kinds from friends and favor seekers, could not own what she has in her account? - Blogger's comment
The Police Command in Katsina State on Tuesday said it had arrested a 60-year-old housekeeper of Hajiya Turai Yar’adua, the wife of the late President Umaru Yar’Adua over missing goods worth N91m.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Usman Abdullahi, said this while briefing newsmen on Tuesday in Katsina.
“The Police have arrested Alhaji Yusuf Sarkin-gida after a formal complaint by Hajiya Turai Yar’Adua to the police two weeks ago.
“The suspect is the custodian of all the keys and property of Hajiya Turai Yar’Adua for the past 40 years.
“There are 37 boxes in the custody of the suspect, but only 27 boxes are in the store.
“The several items in the 27 boxes are completely missing and the suspect has failed to give full explanation on the goods and items in the boxes,” he said.
The CP said the suspect had been serving the late Umar Yar’Adua family for the past 40 years even before her husband became the governor and later the President of Nigeria.
Abdullahi said the suspect was in police custody where he was assisting them to conduct intensive investigation on the missing items.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Sarkin-gida’s family, Alhaji Mohammed Yusuf, said their father was innocent of the charge levelled against him.
He said the arrest and detention of their father before the Eld-el-Kabir celebration had thrown the family into confusion.
He appealed to human rights organisations to come to the rescue of their father.
The Police Command in Katsina State has also arrested a septuagenarian, Mika’ilu Lawal and his son, Rabi’u Mika’ilu, 35, for allegedly using charms to defraud a woman of N6m.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Salisu Agaisa, made the disclosure in Katsina on Tuesday at a news conference.
