As Nigerians seem to have been disillusioned with President Muhammadu Buhari’s government, the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has been voted out of the 2019 race, despite covertly nursing the ambition to be President.
Some Northern Chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, APC, were reported to have been plotting for the 56 year-old El Rufai, to become a potential candidate for the 2019 presidency.
However, in an objective poll conducted by Post-Nigeria with the title, “2019 Presidency: Who does the Cap fit?”, El-Rufai shockingly polled a meager 192 votes, among other contenders, representing 5 percent out of the total of 3,950 pollster.
Recall, that a few months ago, the Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, had accused El-Rufai of plotting to remove President Buhari.
In an explosive interview in the March edition of The Interview magazine, Sani had said, “It would be counter-productive for the Governor to start thinking of evicting Buhari in 2019, to be the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“El-Rufai should do his job, and stop putting his eyes on the Presidency”.
Although, Political Analysts, who gave an unbiased analysis of the poll in relation to the political realities, revealed that from all intent and purposes, El-Rufai can never be Nigeria’s President, because the odds are against him.
“The hand writing on the wall is very clear; El-Rufai should stop playing the ostrich…. His presidential ambition has long been over, going by events. Just Like the poll… he can never become President,” a senior Political Analyst stressed.
One Kayode Kolawole remarked, “I have strong reservations about his (El-Rufai) ability to lead a country like Nigeria, especially in a democratic setting.“He will make an excellent Military Administrator, because of his soft spot for arbitrariness. He was once said to have threatened to revoke some C-of-O, when he was the FCT Minister. This is the kind of person that wants to be the President of Nigeria?”He added: “the Governor has no democratic credentials, he is not knowledgeable in the act and art of politicking, he is politically naïve, but very sly and perfidious,. This is a man who is always angry with himself.”
According to available records made available to Post-Nigeria, over 3.5 million people were displaced as a result of the demolition exercise he carried out during his days as the FCT Minister.
So many people died in the process, court orders were flagrantly disregarded, compensations were not paid, people were not given prior notice before demolition exercises commenced, and a lot of people were subjected to the wickedness, heartlessness and lack of sound judgment in the display of arbitrary use of power.
Not only that, the controversial Religious Bill, currently being debated in the Kaduna House of Assembly, is a factor that has made the Governor lose popularity across the nation.
