One policeman who gave his name as Inspector Mike said it took firefighters an hour to arrive the scene: “It took the fire service more than one hour before they responded to our distress call. By the time they came, the fire has reduced everything into a rubble. That’s why we drove the fire fighters away.”
Another resident named Martina Undie added: “You can see that all the 24 flats have been completely burnt. We could not salvage anything.”
No lives were lost in the incident but according to eyewitness, a man who was taken to hospital “got some serious burns on his body.” In September 2014, fire destroyed 40 flats in the Ijeh Police barracks during a similar incident. See photos below…..
