At a time many Nigerians are begging for direction and asking for a way forward, towards ameliorating the current economic challenges in the country, President Muhammadu Buhari, through the Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Lai Mohammed, has disclosed that the federal government was yet to decide on a way forward.
Lai Mohammed, speaking with journalists at the end of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, Meeting in Abuja, on Wednesday, September 28, said the federal government was yet come out with its position on the sale of the country’s national assets.
According to him, the reports of planned asset sale by the government were mere speculations, as the government had not taken a decision to sell national assets, despite a recommendation of the National Economic Council, NEC.
He said, “Government is still working on the most comprehensive manner to reflate the economy and the government will make its position known very soon.
“What the government will do is to reflate the economy, everything you have heard so far is just suggestion, until the government makes its position known, all these asset sale, asset leasing, whatever … being bandied about there are nothing but speculations.
“The government is yet to come out with its position on how to bail out the economy and it will do that very soon.
“NEC will recommend but it is the federal executive council that will decide and what we decide will be the position of government,” Lia Mohammed said.
It could be recalled that on Tuesday, September 27, the Senate had voted against the proposal to sell national assets, despite the predisposition of Senate President, Bukola Saraki to the idea.
