There have been several reactions trailing the move by the National Assembly to sell off some assets belonging to the Federal Government as a means to battle the current economic condition in the country.
The former minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili in reaction to the proposed move took to her social media page on Twitter to warn the country against such move.
Ezekwesili who composed several tweets to the effect said: “It seems that the default instinct of our political class is “Sell and Spend”. Sell oil. Spend. Oil fails? Sell assets. Spend. WON’T WORK!”
Recall that Ezekwesili ha earlier warned that the slow movement of Presidentt Buhari-led administration especially in tackling matters of national emergency will further doom the nation.
She said: “This FG was handed a LEMON package by the former but it worsened that heritage by a mix of DELAYS, UNCERTAINTY & WRONG POLICIES. #Recession.”
Recall that earlier on Wednesday, some Senators had kicked against the sale of the country’s national assets as the Speaker, Bukola Saraki had on Tuesday called for the sale of the refineries and airports.
Against the suggestion, the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu said: “I have heard about the issue of selling of our assets. I need to caution that other countries are not doing same. UAE does not even allow you to own oil wells not to talk of selling them.”
He added: “Yes, we are saying that there is no money, the oil price had dropped but we were also told that through the TSA we have about N3trillion somewhere. We were also told that the former minister of petroleum returned $20million. We were also told that politicians have returned several billions of naira, dollars and pounds.”
