A close ally to former President, Goodluck Jonathan, and current President, African Development Bank, AfDB, Akinwumi Adesina, has indicated interest to partner with President Muhammadu Buhari, in a bid to end the current recession.
According to news reports, Adesina, will on Monday, September 26, arrive the Presidential Villa, for a 3-day official visit, aimed at discussing how to stimulate Nigeria’s economic recovery.
Those scheduled to meet with Adesina are: President Buhari, the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, and the Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emiefele.
The meeting will solely focus on finding quick ways of strengthening the economy, and creating jobs for the teeming unemployed youths.
Post-Nigeria, gathered that the development is coming at a time President Buhari, had called on all Nigerians to set aside party, religious and ethnicity differences, thereby seeking solutions to the present economic situation.
In a statement obtained from the Bank’s official website on Sunday, September 25, Adesina will be in Nigeria from Monday till Wednesday, on his first official visit to the country, since his appointment in 2015.
”The AfDB President will meet government/policy-makers, the private sector, and development partners, to discuss the challenges facing Nigeria, and highlight the AfDB’s commitment to further strengthen its partnership with Nigeria”, the statement said.
Meanwhile, the Finance Minister on Sunday evening, made an opening confession, admitting that she does not know when exactly the economic recession bedeviling the country will end.
She revealed that she cannot predict when the nation will get out of the current economic recession.
The Minister, who spoke during an interview in Abuja, on Sunday evening, said “I don’t want to predict when we will get out of recession. Let me tell you that we will get into growth, and that’s how you get out of recession, because of the stimulus that we are providing.
“And it may take longer than we would like, but we will definitely get out of it. We are already seeing some positive signs in agriculture, and solid minerals; and with what we are trying to do with other sectors, I am very sure we will get out of it soon”.
To facilitate the recovery of the economy from recession, Adeosun said about N770 billion, had been channeled into the economy for various capital projects this year; adding that, the monitoring team in the Ministry of Budget and Planning, was putting contractors on their toes, to ensure that they deliver.
The Minister, further explained that despite the recession, a lot of foreign investors were still interested in the Nigerian economy.
