Despite the statement credited to former President, Goodluck Jonathan, that he has no intention to contest the 2019 Presidential election, a cross section of Nigerians have asked him to stage a comeback.

This came on the heels of untold hardship, hunger, starvation, nose diving Naira, among other economic ills that have rendered the current government helpless.

While voting in a poll survey conducted by Post-Nigeria, with the title; “2019 Presidency: Who does the cap fit?.” The pollsters overwhelmingly voted for Jonathan, with a whopping 2,036 votes, out of 4,282 total poll votes, representing 48 percent of the total votes cast.

Buhari however, polled a total of 1,226 votes, representing 29 percent of the total votes cast in the poll. Former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, former Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Chairman, EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu and the Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, followed respectively.

Recall, that after three previous failed shots at the Presidency, Buhari, a retired Major-General, who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, polled a total of 15,416,221 votes, to defeat Jonathan, who was the then incumbent, and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who got 12,853,162 votes.

Few weeks ago, Yerima Shettima, who is the National Youth President of apex Northern socio-cultural group: Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, and Chairman of Coalition of all Ethnic Nationality leaders in Nigeria bare his mind on Buhari’s woeful performance since his assumption of office.

“Expectations were high among Nigerians but, Buhari alone cannot move the country forward.

“Yes he promised change, expectation was high, unfortunately, he cannot move the country alone.

“Some of the ministers are inexperienced or incompetent; they do not know what governance is all about. Some of them are behaving like comedian.

“I’m not satisfied with this government and Nigerians are bitter about it, you can not remove all benefits and expect us to be happy,’’ he had said.

Adding he said; “you asked people to tighten up while you are eating fat. Things are hard, you cannot be flying around the world and the common man is suffering, if there is sacrifice, it should start from the leaders.

“A lot of people that supported him are disappointed. Even the campaign slogan, the change mantra is abandoned. Most of the things the government said they would do they are not doing but behaving with impunity.”

Jonathan, recently said that he is not finished with his good works in Nigeria, as he is only retired, not tired in rendering his good works.

In his message, at the recently held 2016 Vanguard Personality of the Year, Jonathan, who was represented at the event by ex-Minister of State for Works, Dayo Adeyeye, informed guests at the event that the ex-President said he is not yet finished with his good works in Nigeria even though he has left office.

In the words of Adeyeye, “He says I should tell everybody that he is not yet finished with his good works in Nigeria, he has left office but he is not tired.”
