As controversy still rages on the selling of Nigeria National Assets to boost the revenue base of the nation, a human rights activist and Executive Chairman, Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice(CHRSJ), Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman has warned the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government against selling the National Assets because of its attendant consequences on the generality of the people in nearest future, saying that the action would further complicate the economy problem of the nation which it may have negative effect on the social security of the land .
He also warned President Buhari not to listen to those who were calling for the selling of National Assets to funds 2016 Budget which it would wind up in a couple of three months ,advising Buhari not to turn his government to prodigal administration like like his predecessors in office.
Comrade Sulaiman, however stated that those who were canvassing for the selling of our National Assets and wealth, were looking for way to acquire Nigeria Properties through backdoor by legal means, alleging that majority of them were part of those who caused the economy woes for the country.
Speaking on the development, in a statement signed by Comrade Sulaiman, which a copy was made available to newsmen on Monday, urged Buhari to look beyond the present occurrence in solving the economy recession facing the country, by offering shares of those National Assets to revive all the moribund industries like Steel Roiling Mills,
Ajaokuta Steel Mills, Nigeria Machine Tools and host of others which it would generate employment to the teeming youth that were losing their jobs as a result of present economy doldrums.
CHRSJ boss tasked Nigerians, particularly, the Labour unions and Civil Societies Organizations (CSOs) in the country, not to pay lip service to this issue of national interest, if the Federal Government remains adamant on this anti-masses agenda, by rolling out the drum of national peaceful protests across the States of the Federation on October 1st, 2016 to be code named “Anti-Sales of National Assets Protest”.
The rights activist urged Buhari’s government to wake up from slumber and fine tune another strategy to bring the country out of the present economy recession by looking inward instead of selling the national birth right of Nigeria masses to few parochial individual, reiterating that the Federal Government should use the funds being collected by the anti-graft agencies to fund the 2016 budget as no court would expect the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to bring cash of billions of naira collected before it as exhibit, than the documents to proof its matter beyond reasonable doubt.
