Recall that after the tribunal judgement, a series of petitions were sent to the National Judicial Council by stakeholders in Abia North Senatorial zone charging the three-man panel with bribery, corruption and other unethical indulgences.
According to a reliable source, Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, who was not initially disposed to the planned rally, has directed the 17 local government chairmen to make a contribution of one million naira each towards the project.
Speaking under condition of anonymity, a PDP supporter in Ohafia Local Government said, “the tribunal members had approached Senator Mao Ohuabunwa on the need to redeem their image in view of allegations of bribery and corruption levelled against the three-man panel.
“It was learned that Justice James Abundaga, Chairman of the tribunal, had called ex-governor T. A Orji on phone to recruit students, thugs, political jobbers to carry placards in order to save his name and job.
“In addition, the hired crowd has been instructed to rain abuses on the person of former Abia State governor and Progressive Peoples Alliance(PPA) candidate, Dr. Orji Kalu”.
