Suspected herdsmen yesterday shot and injured two farmers in Ubulu-Unor community, Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta
State. Some policemen at the Ubulu-Uku Police Division confirmed that the victims were rushed to the General Hospital in Ubulu-Uku, with gunshot wounds.
However, state police commissioner, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, said the police were mobilised to search every nooks and cranny of the area to fish out the suspects without success.
While assuring Delta residents that there would be no hiding place for criminals, Ibrahim urged the people to always provide the police with useful information that would lead to the arrest of criminals in their hideouts.
In Enugu State, member representing Awgu North Constituency in the state House of Assembly, Sunday Ude-Okoye, alleged a plot by herdsmen to launch another attack, calling on Nigerians to come to the aid of the state.
Ude-Okoye said this on the floor of the house while reacting to a recent attack in Attakwu- Akegbe, Nkanu West Council area of the state in which a seminarian and a woman were murdered and three others seriously injured.
However, the state police command yesterday warned against statements that could create fear, urging anybody with relevant information to make such available to it. Dismissing the threat, Police Public Relations Officer Ebere Amaraizu said the command was not aware of any impending attack on any part of the state by herdsmen.
Amaraizu maintained, “We don’t have information about this. He knows where to take it. He should not try to cause unnecessary panic in the state. We are on ground and always ready to combat any uprising. Panic alone could cause problems. If he has any information about any impending attack he should forward the concrete evidence to us.”
