President Muhammadu Buhari has requested the Senate to confirm nominees into positions of Chairman, Executive Commissioner, and Non-Executive Commissioners of Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC.
Among the nominees is an 83-year old former presidential aspirant, Senator Biyi Durojaiye, as the new chairman of NCC.
This has sparked reactions from Nigerians, especially youths from the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Reacting, a political analyst said: “83 Year old man as National Communication Chairman? Chai! Where are APC youths? @Omojuwa @ogundamisi @YeleSowore where are you?’’
Senator Durojaiye was elected Senator for the Ogun East constituency of Ogun State, at the start of the Nigerian Fourth Republic, running on the Alliance for Democracy, AD, platform. He took office on 29 May 1999.
He also uses the tribal title Otunba as a pre-nominal style, thereby highlighting his position as a chieftain of the Yoruba people.
Durojayi, was an elected member of the 1988/89 Constituent Assembly. In 1992 he was a candidate to run for President of Nigeria on the platform of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, losing to M.K.O. Abiola.
He was an elected Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999-2003).
His nomination is in accordance with Section 8(1) of the Nigerian Communications Commission Act 2003, Presidential Media Adviser, Femi Adesina said in a statement on Tuesday.
