The Nigerian immigration on Friday, paraded 29 illegal immigrants of Nigerians origin. According to the Comptroller of Immigration, Lagos Command, Mrs Clara Okojie, the raid was done to rid the state of illegal immigrants.
The arrests were done on the environs of Lagos Island following a tip off. While 79 were arrested, 29 of them were found to be without resident papers, the Nation reports. Others were released, despite not presenting themselves to Immigration Officers on arrival in Nigeria. Many of those caught were engaged in menial jobs while living in the metropolis. They will be sent back to Niger today.
Azare noted that any one of ECOWAS origin, who chooses to come to Nigeria, either for business or tourism is welcome anytime, provided they get the necessary documentation from the immigration service.
