President Muhammadu Buhari is waiting for the report of negotiation with Niger Delta militants before taking his next step. Daily Trust reports that sources from the presidency revealed that Buhari was hoping that on-going talks with militants who have been vandalising pipelines in the region would yield “desired results.” President Buhari had revealed on July 21 that his administration was negotiating with militants through oil companies although the notorious Niger Delta Avengers had vowed that any negotiation without the involvement of the international communities will not be accepted.
The source said the president was currently waiting for the report of the international oil companies and the security agencies and that of the special adviser on Niger Delta Affairs who is also on that assignment. The source refused to disclose the full identities of the federal government’s negotiation team. The president had assured that his administration was doing all it could to put an end to the militancy by studying the Amnesty report. “We understand their feelings. We are studying the instruments. We have to secure the environment; otherwise, investment will not come. We will do our best for the country.”
