Following the outcome of the 2016 May/June West African Examination Council, WAEC, results released recently, which poorly ranked Osun State, the Civil Society Coalition for the Emancipation of Osun State, CSCEOS, has called on Governor Rauf Aregbesola, to tender his resignation with immediate effect.
The group in a statement, signed by Comrade Adeniyi Sulaiman, decried that the mass failure of students in the WAEC result, was an outcome of the bad policies of the Aregbesola administration on education, noting that since his emergence, the educational system in the State, has been destroyed beyond comprehension.
Post-Nigeria, gathered that the call is coming at a time when Aregbesola, had been rated the worst performing Governor in Nigeria, since 1999.
According to the group, despite the billions of Naira Aregbesola had claimed to have spent on ‘Opon-Imo’, O-School Uniforms, construction of buildings, among several others, the State came last in the WAEC, among its peer in the South-West, and 29th out of 36 States of the federation.
The statement reads: ”It means, all the billions of naira Aregbesola said he spent on education was a ruse, and that the said system of education of 4-5-3 his government embarked upon, was illogical.“It is clear that all the acclaimed efforts of Aregbesola in the educational sector of the State, were embarked upon to enrich himself and his family members, with their political associates.“The Governor whose ego is unequal to others, should cover his face in shame with this result, and it is clear that Osun people need a competent and capable hand to take the State out of the present doldrums, being put her to by Aregbesola’s government.“We wondered how many future generations of Osun people that Aregbesola and his government has destroyed by this woeful performance of our dear innocent children”.
The group also lamented that Aregbesola, was still owing teachers in public schools their monthly salaries for a period of 8 months, adding that, there was no professional training organised for the affected teachers.
Following the intense criticisms against his Government, Post-Nigeria, gathered that Aregbesola, is currently under pressure to tender his resignation.
The Civil Society group speaking further, disclosed that all the white elephant projects embarked upon by Aregbesola, in disguise that he is working, which has made the State to borrow beyond its capacity, was a way of siphoning the meager resources of the State.
It added: “We however, seized this opportunity to advise Mr. Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola to honourably tender his resignation from office as Governor of Osun State, because the present administration has become a disaster to the good people of Osun State in all human endeavors, which has seriously retarded the educational sector of the State.“This development has shown the world, that Aregbesola lacks capability to run the state again and he should be relieved of his position, in order to help the State to record the undiluted development and growth in all ramifications across the length and breadth of the State”, the CSCEO reiterated.
Comrade Sulaiman, however, concluded by calling on all well meaning Osun citizens, both at home and abroad, to rise up against the ongoing destruction of the educational system by Aregbesola.
