IN what appears to be outright rejection of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Edo State, some unknown people have descended on APC campaign posters and other party's infrastructures which the leading opposition party in the state , the Peoples' Democratic Party attributed to rejection of the party in the state owing to its failed policies.
In a statement issued by the party's Publicity Secretary in the state, Chris Nehikhare, he said the development is a sign of rejection of the party by the Edo people considering its failed promises in the past eight years which has brought untold hardship to the people of the state particularly the recent protest over unpaid salaries arrears of unpaid local government workers, pensioners, teachers, judicial workers, market women and traders.
While tipping PDP for victory in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state scheduled for September 10, he said the party's campaign slogan of ''change the change'' has been very successful throughout the length and breath of the state.
However, APC has alleged that the posters were destroyed by PDP thugs, an allegation which the PDP said could not be substantiated adding that APC is planning to clamp down on its members ahead of the governorship election billed for September 10.
As part of the covert plans to foment trouble in the state ahead of September 10, the police arrested some youth who had gone to attend PDP rally along Akenzua Road in Benin City alleging they are cultists, a sad development which forced the party to issue a statement condemning the arrest in its entirety.
According to the statement, “the same sources also noted that these are all part of the grand plan to intimidate and antagonise our teeming members and supporters across the state.
“In the light of the foregoing, the Peoples’ Democratic Party, Edo State chapter, wishes to reassure its members, supporters and the general public that we are committed to a peaceful election in Edo State, the same way we did last year which gave us the victory in the presidential election.”
