Two suspected cult members were on Saturday, gunned down by operatives of 2 Brigade of the Nigerian Army during a gun duel in Port Harcourt Punch reports.
The gun-wielding cult members had reportedly blocked a major highway in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State, shooting sporadically into the air, and harassing innocent motorists and passersby. It was learnt that some men of 2 Brigade later intervened and engaged the gunmen in a shootout, killing two of them in the process.

Spokesman of 2 Brigade Captain Eli Lazarus revealed that some of the gunmen escaped with gunshot wounds and called on members of the public to report to the nearest security agencies if they see anybody with gunshot injuries. He also said his Brigade recovered one AK 47 rifle, one FN rifle, one G3 rifle, two G3 magazines and 180 rounds of assorted ammunition from the gunmen.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Rivers state, Mr. Nyesom Wike was at the Eagles Island in Port Harcourt with the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Foluso Adebanjo to comb the hideouts of cultists and kidnappers operating in the state.They reportedly destroyed two deadly cultists’ camps in the area.
Wike vowed that the war against cultists and kidnappers would be sustained to ensure that people carried out their legitimate businesses without molestation.
