There are strong indications that the camp of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, has been thrown into panic, over the disagreement trailing the call for the resignation of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, over an alleged forgery scandal.
On Thursday, June 30, the South-East APC Chapter, had called for the immediate resignation of Saraki, as against the stance of the Kwara State APC Chapter, which insisted that Saraki must not resign.
Post-Nigeria had reported that Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, had on behalf of his boss, Saraki, called for international intervention from the US Congress, United Kingdom, UK, United Nations, European Union Parliament and foreign missions, to stop the alleged plan by the presidency to remove them from office.
Saraki and Ekweremadu are being arraigned on charges of alleged forgery, for manipulating the 2015 Senate Standing Rules.
During the call for the immediate resignation of Saraki, the South-East APC Chapter said: The APC, in the South-East geopolitical zone, has advised all the Principal Officers of the National Assembly, being tried for forgery to do the needful, by resigning their positions in the Assembly, to enable them focus their energy on defending themselves.
“South-East APC, with this statement, joined the Presidency in calling on the principal officers of the Senate facing trial for alleged forgery, to take the option of resigning their positions with immediate effect”.
Some APC Senators who spoke in confidence, said that the forgery scandal leveled against Saraki and his Deputy are very weighty.
Earlier, the Kwara State APC Chapter had issued a statement, tackling the Presidency over the its plan to remove Saraki out of office at all cost.
In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Sulyman Buhari, the party said: “The Senate President, through the press statement he personally signed, only called the attention of Mr President to the danger ahead,if the ugly situation is permitted to fester on.
”Infact, the statement issued by Mr Adesina is the clearest indication that a government exists within the government of Mr President. The President that we know, the President that we have worked with, the President that we have worked for, the President that we voted for, would not have directed his media adviser to issue such unpresidential statement. That statement is a confirmation of the Senate President’s observation. ”The intention of people like Adesina in the villa is to create a discord between Mr President and the Senate President, but that will never happen.”It is the same cabal that embarrassed Mr President himself by padding the 2016 National budget, including the budget of Aso-Rock, to the extent of inflating some figures in the villa expenditures. It is the same cabal that has made it nearly impossible for many ministers and Special Advisers to have access to Mr President. The Presidency should be reminded that a cabal hijacked and destroyed the government of Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan. ”Instead of embarking on futile drive to denounce and dismiss the obvious, what is expected is for the Presidency to embrace introspection and take right steps in the interests of the Nation to forestall the wrath of Nigerians who are getting weary of excuses for the litany of challenges facing the country”.
