Despite the tempest and efforts by the All Progressive Congress, APC, to strip the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu of his position, he has vowed to remain unwavering and has assured Nigerians of his undoubting commitment to the role he was constitutionally elected to play.
Ekweremadu gave the reassurance in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Uche Anichukwu in Abuja on Monday.
“No amount of intimidation or harassment will deter me from carrying out the constitutionally prescribed duties.

Anichukwu stated that the Deputy Senate President has received numerous calls and messages from elder statesmen, Governors, and lawmakers across party lines over the threat to his freedom.
“Nigerians have continued to express utter dismay and concern over the unfolding drama in which his life and liberty are being threatened by desperate politicians.’’
He however assured Nigerians that necessary steps were being taken by security agencies to beef up security around him.

Ekweremmadu applauded the security agencies for the professionalism they adopted in handling the situation, while appreciating the youths across the country for volunteering to provide additional security around him.
Since his emergence as the Deputy President of the Senate on the 9th of June with 54 votes crushing his opponent Senator Ali Ndume of the APC who had 20 votes.
Being from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, his emergence has sparked a lot of negative reactions from the ruling APC, their supporters and various groups.
