The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has lambasted the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and President Muhammadu Buhari, for committing broad day robbery, by appropriating to themselves the Abuja – Kaduna Standard Gauge Rail Line Project, which was conceptualised, awarded and constructed by previous PDP administrations.
The Party in a Statement by its Chief Spokesman, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, on Wednesday night, said it was disheartening that the President and Amaechi, decided to fool themselves, but not Nigerians.
Recall, that the railway was commissioned amidst fanfare by Buhari in Kubwa, a suburb of Abuja on Tuesday, July 26.
Immediately after the commissioning, the social media became awash with arguments between supporters of Buhari, who said he had scored another major developmental achievement, barely a year in office, and admirers of former President, Goodluck Jonathan, who said the former leader completed the project before leaving office in May 2015.
In reaction, the PDP released a statement detailing how the project was conceived and completed, through counterpart funding by the Jonathan administration.
“The Rail Project was conceptualised by the Obasanjo Administration and successive PDP administrations of President Umaru Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan, commenced work and built the Project to 99% completion. Saying that, the only work done by President Muhammadu Buhari on the project, was yesterday’s commissioning,’’ the party said.
It added that, the usual rhetoric of the APC, had always been that the 16 years of PDP’s rule were years of waste, asking if the Railway Project was also a waste?
“The truth which history will bear out, is that the PDP in its 16 years of rule, successfully completed numerous projects that substantively changed the infrastructural landscape of Nigeria. Every one of those 16 years were years of great productivity, with remarkable landmark achievements. This is very much unlike the APC, which has already wasted one full year without even scratching one square meter of ground anywhere in the country”. Prince Adeyeye stressed.
The PDP Spokesman concluded, that ‘if morning truly shows the day, then we can say that Nigeria is now really in the era of waste and stagnation’.
