Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, on Monday, January 16, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to perish the thought of 2019.
Atiku, gave this warning when he paid a condolence visit to the Niger State Government, over the death of a former Governor of the State, Abdulkadir Kure.
Atiku’s statement is a veiled reference to the general state of hardship in the country, and the poor performance of his party, the APC, on the economy.
Though, Atiku had earlier denied the allegation that he was among the politicians routing for a mega party, aimed at unseating Buhari in 2019.
That was even as the leadership of the APC and the Senate caucus of the party, admitted that the multiple crisis that have rocked the party, have hampered its intended delivery of democratic dividends to Nigerians.
When asked about preparation for the 2019 elections, Atiku said: “Who is talking about 2019 now, when there is no food on the table? People are hungry.”
Earlier, while eulogising the late Kure, Atiku said: “He was a friend, a colleague, a brother, a compatriot. His death is a personal loss to me. The kind of pious life he lived, will definitely earn him paradise.”
Recall, that the Senate caucus and the APC National Working Committee, NWC, agreed that the inability of Buhari’s government to deliver good governance, was due to wrong leadership.
The party leadership and the APC Senate caucus, however, had agreed on a smooth running of government with the change of the Senate Leader, last week.
Present at the condolence visit were: Senate President, Bukola Saraki; Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu; former Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako; former Nasarawa State Governor, Senator Abdullahi Adamu; former Eboyi State Governor, Dr. Sam Egwu; among others.
