Reports indicate that aggrieved members of the All Progressive Congress, APC, were on Wednesday, August 17, dislodged from the Party Secretariat in Akure, the Ondo State capital, by the faction allegedly loyal to the National Chairman of the Party, Bola Tinubu, after a violent clash between the rival groups.
Recall, that Tinubu has been consistently implicated for trying to impose a candidate in the forth-coming APC gubernatorial primaries in Ondo State.
The violent clash between loyalists of Tinubu in conjunction with the State Party Chairman, Hon Isaacs Kekemeke, and those trying to oust him at the Party Secretariat in Akure, led to traffic gridlock along the popular Oyemekun road for about an hour.
Post-Nigeria further learnt, that it took the intervention of Police Officers, led by the Area Commander, ACP, in charge of Akure Area Command before the situation could be brought under control.
The aggrieved party members, who had sealed the Party Secretariat on Tuesday, had re-converged there in order to ensure that the State Executive Council members, led by Kekemeke, did not have access to the Secretariat.
The aggrieved members of the APC under the aegis of Movement Against Imposition, had stormed the Secretariat on Tuesday and sealed it off, saying it has lost confidence in the leadership of the Party Executive.
The aggrieved group, also said it has removed the Chairman, Kekemeke and installed a Caretaker Committee led by Hon. Saka Yusuf Ogunleye.
Ogunleye, who pronounced himself as the replacement for Kekemeke, sat at the entrance of the Secretariat with his supporters, waiting to be ushered into the Secretariat when some party members came with cudgels, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.
They were led by Alhaji Amoda Bello, a former Leader of National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW.
They reportedly started throwing stones and sticks at the aggrieved members, until they dislodged them. They chased them out of the Secretariat, and some of them in the process of running for cover, sustained minor injuries.
