The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has extended the tenure of the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee by one year.
The decision was reached after police sealed off the venue of the National Convention of the party scheduled to hold today in Port Harcourt.
But PDP moved the convention to the Adokiye Amasiemeka stadium, Omagwa, Rivers State in defiant of the earlier police action. This was agreed after an emergency meeting held at the presidential hotel Port Harcourt.
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Francis Odesanya, has said today that he did not seal the convention venue of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but rather he was only providing security.
The police commissioner explained that he was only complying with a court order, and he was in no position to interpret court verdicts.
