Barely one week after the assumption of power as Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo has broken his silence on the challenges confronting him, saying that the truth must be told.
Osinbajo, who opened up on the challenges through his Spokesman, Laolu Akande, in a statement, made this disclosure on Friday evening, at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja, while meeting with the Executive Director of the World Food Programme, WFP, Ertharin Cousin.
He said that it has been a tough challenge for the Federal Government to meet the needs of the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in the North-East.
“So many people are in need, it is a tough challenge, but we are committed,” the Acting President was quoted as saying.
Osinbajo, who reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring normalcy to the lives of the IDPs in the North-East, stated: “We are working on how people can get back to their normal lives.”
He also stated, that “the government was also working on how to help the children, especially regarding education and housing.”
He assured that the government would continue to secure places where the peace had been restored.
Osinbajo however, described dealing with the security challenges, as an on-going task for the Federal Government.
According to him: “the threats will reduce hopefully, even though the nature of asymmetric warfare is also well understood.”
He acknowledged the support of the WFP in the North-East region, especially to children and families, pledging more cooperation from the government.
Earlier, Cousin had noted that she visited to brief Osinbajo, extend the greetings of the United Nations Secretary General, and also, commend the Federal Government for the support given to the WFP in Nigeria.
